Due to the ongoing increase in chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc. as well as the continuously increasing life expectancy rate – costs in care delivery are spiralling out of control.

Alongside this, “Payers” are introducing new economic incentives, which are putting more pressure on “Providers” to deliver better quality of care to “Patients” to keep insurance claims down.

This has created a shift in the US.  Previously running on a “fee-for-service” basis, healthcare in the US  is moving towards a “fee-for-value” model – instead of paying for both the doctors time and the medicine administrated when getting a flu shot, under the new model a patient would merely pay for the actual cost of the flu shot.

This means that “Providers” are under increasing pressure to provide better care but for less money. Hence, the buy in on connected healthcare from “Providers” has been difficult and many view it as necessary evil.

To allow for care to be administrated as cost effectively as possible, the use of digital technologies, medical devices, wearables etc. has drastically increased as a way to:

  • Administer care remotely
  • Engage patients in their own care delivery plan
  • Use of big data analytics to better determine and develop personalised care delivery plans based on comparative data and genomics.

“Manufacturers” are playing a huge role here as they provide the various tools required for “Providers” to meet the new requirements in a cost effective and care effective way.

In addition, “Patients” are influencing how consumers make health care decisions and the rate at which they adopt digital health technologies.

CHealthWorld presents a unique platform specifically designed to facilitate dialogue, knowledge exchange and practical executive learning around key technological advancements and innovation in health care, enabling attendees to prepare for the transformation and stay relevant in the future of care.

  • Digital health: The ability to monitor, manage and improve health based on information and data collected through technologies.
  • Big Data Analytics: How to translate large amounts of data collected from medical devices, wearables etc. to real and bespoke care delivery plans
  • Artificial Intelligence: The development of technologies with human traits such as visual perception, speech recognition and the ability to analyse information and make subsequent decisions without intermediate human input. (Intelligent technologies)
  • Value-based care: The value based care model translates to patients paying for outcomes of care rather than simply the delivery of care i.e. did the care you received actually make you better. This is putting additional pressure on the ability to get patients better, faster and is a huge driver behind the digital health revolution as care providers are seeking any technical support they can get to be able to more quickly and accurately diagnose a patient and prescribe a suitable care plan.
  • Precision Medicine: Treatment and prevention of illness strategies which are based on the variable factors of individual genome, environment and lifestyles.
  • Patient Engagement & Patient Experience/Design: Strategies to ensure technology is user friendly and seamless to optimise adherence to ensure the collection of quality and consistent data.
  • Clinician Engagement: Recognising that physicians and clinicians are the implementers of technology strategies and as such it is imperative they remain engaged with and fully understand the process and objectives to ensure the efficient and timely administration of new technologies
  • Population Health: Strategies and approaches which aim to improve health outcomes of an entire group
  • Access of care: The efficient delivery of quality care to vulnerable groups i.e. low-income population, elderly and those living in remote areas of the country.
  • Cyber security & Risk Management: Ensuring the safe and regulatory compliant administration of clinical data.
  • Interoperability: Ensuring that different technologies, i.e. medical devices, wearables, software, platforms etc, from different manufacturers can work together and exchange information.
  • System integration: Ensuring that the data collected from different technologies, i.e. medical devices, wearables, software, platforms etc, from different manufacturers can be collected in a seamless way and be made easily accessible to clinicians.
  • Genomics/Personalised Care
  • Management of chronic illness: The use of technology to assist in lifestyle management and delivery of care for people with a chronic illness such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease which often involves lifetime care and treatment and is one of the biggest issues of overall cost of healthcare at a global level.
  • Generation shift: Ensuring user friendliness of technology between the younger generation/millennials who are very tech savvy and are seeking more mobile and instant ways to monitor and manage their health vs. the older generation who are often the more vulnerable group and in need of more care but may not have the same technical confidence as the younger generation – ensuring the “human touch” in healthcare as needed and appropriate.
  • Vulnerable groups: Mostly referrers to low-income population, elderly and those living in remote areas of the country with no easy access to quality care.
  • Venture & Investment: Identifying what areas within technology (i.e. medical devices, wearables, software, AI) are receiving the most private funding and understanding how these areas are developing.
  • Pharmaceutical perspective: As the drug/medicine experts within the healthcare industry; understanding how pharma plays a role in the efficient delivery of care through technology
  • Insurance perspective: As the “Payer” and often seen as the lead driver behind value-based care; fully understanding how the insurance companies are investing in/integrating with digital health and healthcare technologies to improve care delivery and subsequently lowering insurance claims.

I have found the Proqis's congresses to be among the best I've attended in my 30+ years. The speakers are professional; the presentations are informative and no sales attempts as I've seen in other settings.
